The present volume constitutes a singular contribution to its field on several counts. First and foremost, it is an outcome of a joint research effort by members of various European higher education institutions who have cooperated within the framework of the European Campus of City Universities Project (EC2U). It is an initiative that brings together the Universities of Coimbra, Portugal; Iasi, Romania; Jena, Germany; Pavia, Italy; Poitiers, France; Salamanca, Spain; and Turku, Finland, with the objective of establishing a cohesive and inclusive academic community. Moreover, the volume is significant since its contributors address crucial issues that relate to multilingualism and multiculturalism in higher education. Among them is higher education institutions' language policies, the linguistic interactions taking place in their respective multilingual environments, the language policies relating to research and the knowledge dissemination process, and training for prospective language professionals, among many other matters. Finally, the authors have contributed papers in various languages English, French, German, and Spanish thereby actively promoting academic multilingualism.
