A leading prehistoric site, the Carnac alignments are among the largest megalithic groups of this type in the world. This exceptional site was built during the Neolithic, which marked the beginning of sedentary life and farming. Organised as a series of recurring systems, the Carnac stones extend for several kilometres. They form a spectacular landscape that bears witness to our ancestors' determination to make a powerful symbolic mark on an exceptional site. Careful management of the landscape has ensured the preservation of plant and animal species, which now form an extensive natural space open to visitors.
