WHAT ARCHITECTURE FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE CITY ?
ECOLOGICAL ARCHITECTURE is reality in the making. While some approaches are very complete, in France as abroad, the main figures of ecological architecture define themselves rather as researchers and explorers grappling with the emergencies of the social, climatic and energetic issues facing us today. Ecological architecture is a movement that is genuinely universal. It is extremely diverse and has emerged from a multiplicity of creative poles, in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Ecological architecture is a form of architecture founded on a new interpretation of the world. Based on a holistic approach working through complexity, it combines conservation and innovation, development and preservation, individual freedom and collective values. Ecological architecture reconnects with a vision of politics. It advocates the reasonable exploitation and equitable distribution of resources and in the process changes the meaning of the words "progress" and "nature", attacking the established order of the 20th century. In the seventies, France was a pioneer of bio-climatic architecture. Today France is gradually taking its place in this powerful global movement. The quality and the diversity of the works presented in this work show that a French input is already underway.
