Our future is a choice

Our Future is a choice is part of the 2019 collection of English writings from officers of the Ecole de Guerre, the French War College in Paris. These papers explore aspects of security and defense on behalf of partner-institutions in Britain and the United States in order to stimulate their thinking on the military and larger challenges that beset western democratic societies. France is on the front line facing these challenges, by virtue of current policies and its history which themselves are part of the European humanist tradition. This tradition is under threat, in a way not seen since the middle of the 20th century. These pages testify to the vigorous enquiry, critical thinking and imagination that reflect the best of this tradition as it grapples with complex and urgent issues and stands up for its convictions.
