Le Concerto pour Violon est écrit en hommage à la peinture de Jean-Michel Basquiat, figure éphémère de la peinture contemporaine (il est mort à 28 ans), et représentant éminent d’un nouveau style, proche du graffiti et du « Street art », à New-York dans les années 80.Dans nombre de ses œuvres on peut discerner un personnage surmonté d'une auréole, mais lui-même très déconstruit et comme "éclaté". C'est le cas des quatre tableaux qui sont ici cités : Fallen Angel, Saint, Acque Pericolose, Tar and Feathers. Pour rendre sensible cette présence d’un « sacré paradoxal » on retrouvera dans la plupart des mouvements, des variations sur le thème du Dies Irae.
