Book DescriptionContemporary Chinese Literature is an elective course book in the Erya Chinese series. This book combines teaching of literary history with appreciation of literary writers and works, containing an overview of contemporary Chinese literature and covering various literary forms such as fiction, prose, poetry and drama. Classical writers and works are included for introduction and appreciation. Apart from the text, there are other sections in each lesson, i.e. vocabulary notes, reading tips, cultural notes, classroom discussion, after-class exercises, brief summary and extracurricular reading tips, aiming to assist readers in better learning and using the book. About the AuthorLi Chunyu, Doctor of Letters, works as a professor and PhD tutor. Dr. Li completed her undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies in the Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University and received her doctor’s degree in 2004. During 2009 and 2010, Li went to West Point to be a visiting professor in the Department of Foreign Languages. Li received several teacher and talent awards in 2012 and 2013. Li’s research interests include “modern and contemporary Chinese literature and culture” and “cultural transmission of international Chinese teaching”. In recent years, she has published more than 40 articles in different journals and hosted several provincial research projects. She has written academic books such as Chinese Culture – Literature, Modern Transformation of Publishing Culture and Chinese Literature, and A Look at Beijing Culture from a Foreign Perspective, and been the chief-editor of Modern Chinese Literature: Data and Research and Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature among other textbooks.
