Joseph Daniel UNWIN (1895-1936) est ethnologue et anthropologue à l'université d'Oxford. Il publie en 1934 sa thèse de doctorat, qui expose le lien, au niveau sociétal, entre régulation de la sexualité (polygamie, monogamie, libertinage, etc.) et développement culturel, en particulier le rapport au divin. Après sa thèse, Unwin a entrepris de poser les fondements théoriques d'une société nouvelle, à laquelle il donne le nom de Hopousia. Il meurt précocement en 1936, à 40 ans, sans avoir terminé son ?uvre - une petite moitié du texte est rédigée. Nous en fournissons ici la traduction.
