Fracture Mechanics and Micromechanics of Wood and Wood Composites with Regard to Wood Machining
The Third International Symposium on wood machining was organised within the framework of COST Action E35: "Fracture Mechanics and Micromechanics of Wood and Wood Composites with regard to Wood Machining". This conference was the follow-up of two symposia on wood machining, which were held in Vienna in 2000 and 2004 respectively. The COST Action E35 provides co-operation between research organisations in European Universities and industry, to achieve better understanding of the relationship between wood structure at different levels, the mechanical, as well as the fracture performance of wood in wood machining processes in order to quantify the machining processes and to improve the surface quality of the final wood product.During the 3rd symposium, delegates from Universities and industries from 15 countries presented their latest advances on the three following topics: Microstructure and Micromechanics, Fracture and Surface Characterisation and Wood Machining. These proceedings bring together all the articles presented in this conference, in order to fill the gap between basic research on material properties and applied research, on the subject of wood machining.
