Environmental Geomechanics cover a wide range of topicsconcerned with the mechanical behaviour of geomaterials. The problems addressed are complex, mainly due to thecoexistence of several species and phases, to theirinteraction and their often non-linear behaviour.Experimental evidence is difficult to obtain and laboratoryas well as in-situ testing procedures present seriouschallenges. Numerical techniques are used to solve thecomplex non-linear analytical systems. Integration of newmodels for engineering applications will require aconsiderable effort among engineering teams. Due to thenumber of phenomena influencing the solutions aninterdisciplinary approach to Environmental Geomechanics istherefore necessary. The first part of the volume contains invited keynotelectures addressing various aspects of the subject ofEnvironmental Geomechanics. It can serve as a startingpoint for further research thanks to its in-depth treatmentand its rich bibliographic references. The second partcontains various selected contributions. These reflect thebroad scope of Environmental Geomechanics and appeal formore research efforts in this domain. Many practicalproblems relating to engineering practice are alsopresented which make the book an invaluable "state of theart" guide in this very important field. The Workshop will specifically cover the following topicsof environmental geomechanics: Constitutive aspects -Mechanics of unsaturated soils, thermal behaviour, influence of chemical content of fluids on the mechanicalproperties, durability, creep and long-term effects.Coupled Formulations - Thermodynamics, mixture theories, intercation between constituents, phase changes. Casestudies - Advanced modelling of real cases will provideexample of potential and limitations of the existingtheories.ContentsKeynote papersSolid phase constitutive behaviourFlow field & THM modelingBoudary-value problems
