On a rapporté qu'il était un gentilhomme lettré, un voleur astucieux, ne s'en prenant qu'aux riches pour distribuer aux pauvres, bernant ses victimes sous des déguisements divers, se moquant des autorités pour faire rire le peuple, un hors-la-loi aux mains propres et au coeur pur. La vérité, mesdames et messieurs ? C'était un beau salaud !
