Il devint directeur du Buffalo en 1895 alors qu'il était rédacteur en chef du Journal des vélocipédistes. C'est lui qui introduisit Toulouse-Lautrec dans le milieu de la course cycliste, dont le peintre tomba immédiatement amoureux. Il immortalisa au crayon noir le grand champion Zimmerman (Zimmerman et sa machine, musée du Louvre)."
