Inspirée de la vie de Otama Kiyohara (1861~1939), Keiko Ichiguchi nous fait découvrir une histoire qui n'est pas sans rappeler son propre parcours entre deux mondes lointains : le Japon et l'Italie. Première femme peintre japonaise de style occidental et la première femme japonaise à avoir posé comme modèle pour un artiste occidental, Otama a vécu la "Belle Époque" à Palerme vers la fin du 19ème siècle. Puis, complètement oubliée par les Japonais pendant plus de 50 ans, Otama rentre au Japon en 1933 à l'âge de 73 ans. Son pays natal a bien changé. Nous sommes au début février 1936, un coup d'Etat se prépare...
