Pourtant il publie "Les Manifestations visuelles fantastiques" (1826) alors qu'il a publié un peu avant la "Physiologie comparative du sens visuel de l'homme et des animaux". Les deux ouvrages diffèrent du tout au tout : l'ouvrage sur les manifestations fantastiques explore "l'inverse" de la vision physiologique.
