LE RECUEIL DE LA DIVERSITÉ DES HABITS, édité pour la première fois en 1562, consiste en une série de 121 figures, chacune décrite par un court quatrain.Nous présentons ici la reproduction des figures et des quatrains d'origine, avec en regard une transposition en Français moderne, ainsi qu'une traduction pour nos amis Anglophones.Au-delà de la beauté des gravures anciennes et de la sonorité particulière des quatrains en ancien Français, le RECUEIL nous renseigne sur les préjugés de l'époque et la morale en vigueur, l'auteur, François Deprez, devant s'y plier afin de ne pas encourir la colère des autorités et de l'église.THE COMPENDIEUM OF THE DIVERSITY OF THE CLOTHES, first published in 1562, consists of a series of 121 figures, each described by a short quatrain.We present here the reproduction of the original figures and quatrains, with the transposition into modern French, and a translation for our English speaking friends.Beyond the beauty of the old engravings and the particular sound of the quatrains in old French, THE COMPENDIEUM informs us about the prejudices of the time and the morals in force, the author, François Deprez, having to comply with them in order not to incur the wrath of the authorities and the Church.
