Le cardinal Pierre de Bérulle (1575-1629) est un homme dont l'influence fut, et demeure, considérable et un personnage important en politique, « à qui, selon Bossuet, la pourpre romaine n'a rien ajouté, tant il était déjà relevé par le mérite de sa vertu et de sa science » il reste surtout dans l'histoire comme un auteur spirituel dont le rayonnement fut immense. Mais le premier contact avec sa pensée et son style déconcerte souvent le lecteur peu habitué à cette langue proche encore du latin. Ce petit livre est une initiation. Il présente quatorze méditations de Bérulle sur les principaux mystères de la vie du Christ. Pour faciliter la lecture de ces textes, l'orthographe, le style et certaines tournures de phrases ont été adaptés au langage contemporain.--Cardinal Pierre de Bérulle (1575-1629) was a man whose influence was, and still is, considerable, as well as an important figure in politics, one ‘to whom,' as Bossuet said, ‘the red hat added nothing, so elevated was he already by virtue of his righteousness and knowledge'. But above all, he is regarded historically as a spiritual author whose influence was immense. However, initial contact with his thinking and style often disconcerts modern readers who are unaccustomed to his language, which still borders on Latin. This little volume is intended as an introduction. It presents fourteen of Bérulle's meditations on the principal mysteries of the life of Christ. In order to facilitate reading, the spelling, style and certain turns of phrase have been adapted to conform to contemporary language.
