« Les choses cachées sont pour Yhwh notre Dieu, et les choses révélées sont pour nous et pour nos fils pour toujours, afin que nous mettions en pratique toutes les paroles de cette Loi » (Dt 29,28). Ce verset intrigue. Il fascine. Que sont ces choses « cachées », dont seul Dieu semble avoir connaissance ? Sont-elles cachées à tous et à jamais ? N'y a-t-il pas moyen d'en recevoir la révélation ? Pour répondre à cette question, Valérie Triplet-Hitoto emmène le lecteur à Qumrân, sur les rives de la mer Morte. Là, quelque neuf cents manuscrits, mis à l'abri dans des grottes il y a deux mille ans, ont été exhumés au milieu du XXe siècle. Ils mettent en lumière la fluidité du texte de la Bible hébraïque et du judaïsme ancien. La question des mystères et des connaissances cachées y tient une place de premier ordre, avec une abondante littérature apocalyptique. Si certaines de ces oeuvres étaient connues avant la découverte du site de Qumrân, à l'instar du livre d'« Hénoch », d'autres, tels le livre des « Mystères » ou les manuscrits dits « communautaires », apparaissent pour la première fois et bouleversent nos connaissances.--"The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things are for us and for our children forever, to observe all the words of this law." (Dt 29,28). This verse is intriguing, fascinating. What are these hidden things that only God seems to know about? Are they to remain hidden forever? Is there no way for them to be revealed to us? To answer that question, Valérie Triplet-Hitoto takes the reader to Qumran, on the banks of the Dead Sea. There, about nine hundred manuscripts, sheltered in caves two thousand years ago, were recovered at the end of the 20th century. They reveal the fluidity of the Hebrew Bible texts and ancient Judaism. The question of mysteries and hidden knowledge is a primary one which has inspired an abundance of apocalyptic literature. Although certain of these books were known to us before the discovery of the Qumran site, such as the Book of Enoch, others - like the Book of Mysteries and the so-called 'Community Rule' manuscripts - became available for the first time, radically altering our knowledge.
