They imagine this forthcoming event, the ‘Day of the Lord', in different ways and do not all say the same thing, even if the texts, in the long run, agree on a fundamentally happy vision of the end and on an outlook filled with hope. To whom is this future happiness promised? What crises have to be endured to attain it? How does one integrate the oracles of judgement and sins into this fundamental prophetic view? What margin for manoeuvre or responsibility is there for peoples and individuals? What distinction should be made between eschatology and apocalyptic? These are some of the questions the contributors to this volume address, by providing, in the course of a journey through the Scriptures, a historical outline of prophet eschatology.
