De la citation dans un débat polémique à la méditation mystique, du commentaire allégorique à l'analyse historico-critique, tous les Pères, à leur époque respective, partagent la même passion : scruter le mystère infini d'un Dieu qui parle dans l'histoire du salut.--Thirty Fathers of the Church, from Clement of Rome to Bernard of Clairvaux, are grouped here in seven distinct periods according to the relation to the Bible. From quotes in a polemical debate to mystical meditation, from allegorical commentaries to historical/critical analysis, all the Fathers, in their respective epochs, shared the same passion: to examine the infinite mystery of a God who speaks to man in the history of salvation.
