LE JUDAÏSME ET L'AVÈNEMENT DU CHRISTIANISME

Dan Jaffé, rigorously exploiting the different academic disciplines required for the task, brings us a study and a critical presentation of the fundamental texts. He succeeds in discerning the impressions those first Christians and Christ's disciples made on the Sages of the Talmud. He explains how the Sages viewed the scriptures and Judeo-Christian practices. He also shows how rabbinic Judaism reacted in that moment of crisis, facing rebels who put their laws into question. So we learn that before the decade beginning in 70 A.D., the Sages and the disciples frequented one another, and interpreted the Law together. The author casts new light on the dramatic events that brought about the separation of Jews and Christians, as well as on the relations - often strained - within Jewish society. This book also allows us to understand how a pluralist society became an institutional one that imposed its laws, and how orthodoxy and heterodoxy were slowly but surely constituted.
