Alors qu'il ramène les Daltons vers une nouvelle prison après une énième évasion, Luke croise la route d'un sculpteur français, Bartholdi, qui sillonne l'Ouest Américain avec une étrange sculpture : une main colossale tenant une torche. Il s'agit en fait d'une partie de la désormais célèbre Statue de la Liberté, et Bartholdi collecte des fonds pour sa construction et acheminement depuis la France. Avant peu, notre cowboy est recruté par le gouvernement pour escorter Lady Liberty ... depuis Paris !
